The agency was founded in 1996 by Lynda Pearson and Millie Olson.
They named it Amazon for reasons that are apparent when they enter a room. And because Olson & Pearson sounded like a Swedish vaudeville team.
By 2002, the Publicis Groupe was sufficiently impressed to take a minority share, giving Amazon clients access to global marketing resources.
Amazons now fill a floor of a sunny converted warehouse in San Francisco.
Contrary to rumor, not all are six feet tall. Or female.
BELIEFS
Good Ads
Good work is strategically brilliant, magically executed and seems inevitable, effortless and outrageously new.
It’s beautiful, funny or wise and, if you’re lucky, all three.
The best work changes the rules of advertising. None of that advertising will seem comfortable when first presented.
Good work doesn’t just work. It delights. It engages. And very importantly, it makes you feel okay about being human.
Good Strategy
Good strategies don’t just focus work. They compel it.
They’re visual. They often feel a little wicked because they hold a piece of human understanding that is yet to be said out loud.
A good strategy feels like a story waiting to be told. And creates a sense of mission. A good strategy makes work an act of joy.
Oddly, in hindsight, these strategies often appear dumbfoundingly obvious.
